Preparing for your Makeup Appointment
Ahead of time:
Spray tans are best done 48hrs prior to your makeup appointment, please include the face. Tip: Any nail service will need to be done prior to spray tanning.
Any facial waxing/threading should be done at least 72hrs prior to a makeup appointment.
Brow lamination, lash lifting, lash extensions are best done 48hrs prior to makeup, and must be done 48hrs prior to having a spray tan. (Lashes and brows can't get wet for 48hrs).
On the day:
Professional makeup artistry is always done on clean skin. Please cleanse and exfoliate your face prior to your makeup appointment. You may apply your usual skincare and lip balm, (no oils or mineral/silicone/physical SPF).
Do not apply any makeup at all. None! So put the powder away and don’t be tempted!
Although I have a vast array of lip finishes and colours on hand I always recommend to bring your own lipstick/lip liner so you can reapply with a matching colour throughout the day/night.
If you have very oily skin or tend to perspire a lot on the face, it is recommended you use a maintenance product after your makeup appointment such as a HD silica based power or oil blotting tissues. These are sold at most any good makeup counter.
Thinking of having hair styling? Most hair stylists and makeup artists are very capable of working around the others work. In a perfect world, the ideal order is makeup artistry followed by hair styling.
Wear a top that is easy to change out of if you are changing into something else for your event. This will prevent dragging or smudging the makeup.
To aid in makeup longevity, stay away from sources of heat or steam such as dishwashers, ovens, steamers, and avoid activities that will make you perspire.
Avoid touching your face, the oils in your hands may interfere with the makeup. If you need to catch tears simply use a tissue to blot by “tapping” and avoid any motion that rubs, picks or causes friction.
Reapply lipstick as needed. A lip brush is recommended to maintain accuracy.
If you wear contact lenses ensure these are in before the makeup application begins. Please notify your makeup artist if you will be wearing them so certain products can be avoided and a more suitable product used (e.g. gel liner should be avoided on the waterline with contact lens use).
Removal:
If you aren’t wearing eyelash extensions, (the grafted variety), then an oil based eye makeup remover is recommended for easy removal of false strip eyelashes, mascara, lipstick and eyeliner. Rinse the makeup remover and follow with your face cleanser of choice.
If you are wearing eyelash extensions please use for lash shampoo and lash cleaning brush to remove makeup around the eye area. Lash shampoo can be used on the entire face as a makeup remover, simply apply it to a cotton round and gently buff the face. Rinse the lash shampoo with water and follow with your face cleanser of choice.
To remove false strip or cluster eyelashes, apply makeup remover to a cotton round and press and hold onto the eye. Allow it to sit for 10 seconds then gently buff. The lashes should come off easily. If not, rinse with water, allowing the glue to swell. When the glue swells you can gently pick from the inner corner lash and peel outwards. The lashes are ready for removal if they are not pulling or tugging at your natural lash.
If you experience any soreness, severe itchiness or swelling occurs please remove the makeup immediately using cool damp cotton wool and apply a cold compress if irritation persists. If irritation still persists after 24 hours or you are concerned at any time please contact your GP immediately, and notify Rachel as soon as practicable.
